We hope you had as fantastic a holiday season as we did. With sales of Prosecco and our recently launched alcohol-free Noughty booming across this period, we were excited to see the uptake of our newly branded portfolio – choose Prosecco for a pure, organic alcoholic glass or Noughty as your perfect #sobercurious answer to tackling the holiday period without alcohol.
We’re keen to give you an overview of our business in the last quarter of 2019 and share some news as to developments at Thomson & Scott HQ.
Are You Noughty?
Since its launch in September 2019, our organic, vegan alcohol-free sparkling has become the baby everyone wants to hold. Reviews have been unanimously complimentary, brilliant even, with media and consumers alike. Noughty has fast become the darling of the alcohol-free space, filling the yawning gap where alcohol-free wine is concerned.
Expertly crafted from 100% organic grapes grown in the southern region of Spain, produced using a vegan filtration method, and dealcoholized using a hundred-year-old tried and tested method in Germany, Noughty is taking the UK by storm.
The majority of organic reviews on Amazon from buyers are 5 star and even Alcohol Change UK, the non-government agency for alcohol issues has given us a glowing review stating:
“Alcohol-free wine is hard to get right, but now and again someone hits the nail on the head.”
“A Gift From God” – The Times
Our organic, vegan Prosecco continues to be a hit with consumers looking for an entry-level-Champagne-quality fizz whilst avoiding the addition of adding unnecessary sugar to the production process.
Described recently by The Voice, the iconic black newspaper, who was celebrating the best vegan wines on offer, as possessing “golden highlights and elegant textured bubbles” it went on to say “the palate is incredibly crisp with a light and refreshing finish.”
We’ve opened some incredible accounts over the last quarter. Thanks to our tireless sales team we’ve forged new partnerships with Brewdog, Daylesford Farm Shop and Suma Co-op to name three highlights amongst many.
We have also been busy pouring at various tasting events both here and abroad.
Domestically our sales revenue was up almost 80% compared to Q3 2018.
Accounts opened have also grown in number by 30% from 2018 Q3 to this year.
From Daylesford to Dubai
Yotel Edinburgh, a key account, threw a launch party with T&S as house-pour Prosecco. And we continue to consolidate the global relationship with the group. Amanda’s interview in lifestyle Scottish publication Hood Magazine in December further helped position us in Scotland.
With its no tolerance policy on drink driving, Noughty is a welcome arrival at Holland & Barrett too.
We successfully relaunched the brand in Northern Ireland with a top new distribution partner who has rebuilt the market quickly to 40+ accounts.
In Ireland, Noughty is getting traction as the Government introduces strict new alcohol regulations there too.
South Africa has two brand ambassadors pushing Skinny Prosecco - opening new premium accounts and planning new branding and a Noughty launch later this year. EY are also toasting with both at their latest Entrepreneur Cape Town summit where Amanda is a guest.
Amanda visited New Zealand for their key annual trade show and featured in lifestyle magazine, Remix. They’ve taken Noughty on with anticipation for on and off premise this coming year and a wait list growing.
In the Netherlands, the UK Department for International Trade supported our stand at the country’s largest trade show with a number of new accounts as a result.
Yotel Amsterdam also opened with Skinny Prosecco as their house pour.
Our newly redesigned and recalibrated website is now fully engaged with an increase in our subscriptions month on month. We are running a number of promotions across the year to mark Valentine’s Day with a #selflove push and Mother’s Day further pushing subscriptions.
News, reviews and even a little Boris
Press coverage has been extraordinary over the festive season 2019 and into this new year.
A blind test review of Noughty by the US based and internationally read INSIDER magazine was full of praise for our alcohol-free.The headline alone stated: “I taste tested 6 non-alcoholic wines, and while the whites and reds weren't close to the real thing, the sparkling wine was surprisingly good” declaring Noughty the independent favourite in blind test.
Our Founder and CEO Amanda Thomson was also in the press, meeting Boris Johnson at a West London business gathering and putting him on the spot about Entrepreneurs’ Relief. Her comments in The Times have awarded her a whole new world of business fans supporting her views. And raising awareness of our brand. We’re hoping her nudge has made a real impact and that the Treasury will look to maintain a high level of support for the next generation of entrepreneurs.
We could not be prouder than to have gained our B Corp certification for ethical business so keep your eyes peeled for more on that, as well as hugely exciting upcoming sales developments in the UK and beyond.
Thank you for your continued support
We are planning a tasting evening this spring as we roll out our new partnerships in London producing Noughty-based cocktails. Details of who, where and when are yet to be confirmed. If you’re interested in attending simply email us and we’ll keep you posted!
